A single vehicle accident proved fatal to the truck’s 38 year old driver recently.  The accident occurred on Route 18 in Mt. Ida Township, WI, when the driver failed to negotiate a curve in the road causing his rig to leave the roadway.  Objects being hauled at the time reportedly came loose in the crash and partially crushed the cab of the truck.  The driver was reportedly pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident serves as a chilling and tragic reminder of the significant risks tractor trailers can present to everyone on the roads, and of the critical importance that the drivers of such vehicles abide by all of the rules, standards and regulations which govern them.  Speed restrictions, proper inspections of the truck and its safety equipment, proper inspections of the securing of cargo, and limits on the number of hours drivers can operate, all exist for a reason:  To prevent tragedies like this from occurring.
