March, 2013:   KRISTV in Corpus Christi reports that a distracted bus driver caused a rear-end collision, when she took her eyes off the road and turn her attention to discipline students on her bus.  Police reported that the driver was telling a student to sit down, when she rear-ended a truck with sufficient force to propel that truck into another vehicle ahead of it.  At least one student, in addition to the bus driver, was taken for medical attention.  The bus driver was reportedly cited by the police.

Bus drivers certainly experience challenges while driving, but those challenges do not exempt the driver’s from using common sense, good judgment and from following the rules of the road which exist to protect us all.  Hopefully, this accident serves as a reminder to bus driver’s that they must attend to the safety of the public and the precious cargo they are hauling before attempting to dole out discipline.
